OFF BROADWAY BOUTIQUE INTRODUCES BABY BOOMER CHIC TO FASHION ELITE

Saturday, August 28th, 2010

With the largest fashion fete gracing the Big Apple in less than a month, scores of stylistas have been salivating over the chic possibilities. Sensing a perfect opportunity to broadcast our fabulous vision of forty-plus style, Off Broadway Boutique has decided to participate in Fashion’s Night Out global celebration by hosting a party at our store on the Upper West Side. In promoting our collection of elegant pieces to women over forty of all sizes, we have succeeded in tapping into an often-overlooked market that is quickly asserting itself as a lucrative force in retail.

“One of the reasons why we’ve been successful for over forty years is because we’re one of the few boutiques in New York that specifically caters to real women,” owner and Countess of Glamour, Lynn Dell, proudly declares. “We’ve never been about chasing the latest trends because we’ve been far too busy establishing timeless style amongst fifty-something women who live for looking fabulous.” With a vast selection of wardrobe pieces and glamorous jewelry that are handpicked by Ms. Dell and her seasoned staff, Off Broadway Boutique thrives in presenting its faithful clientele with choices that will fit every size, style, and way of life. In participating in Fashion’s Night Out, we plan on establishing a new kind of lucrative customer – the 40+ fashionista.

With our personalized take on styling for bodies that range from slender to full-figured, Off Broadway Boutique has earned a well-deserved reputation as a New York fashion institution in a way that exceeds other designer boutiques and department stores. As noted fashion blogger, Ari Seth Cohen observes, visiting the shop will prompt the most selective of stylistas to spend “all afternoon playing dress-up in a collection of over 40 years of new or vintage clothing and accessories.” It is that enthusiastic outlook that Off Broadway Boutique hopes to inspire in the fashion industry’s impression of women over forty who embrace that baby boomer chic.

Accent Your Style with Our Posh Parasol!

Saturday, August 28th, 2010

Owner and Countess of Glamour, Lynn Dell, finds style inspiration everywhere she goes.   From the markets in Turkey to the streets of Mexico, a vacation is never just a vacation – there is shopping to be done! It was no surprise that upon returning from her weekend with the family in the Hamptons for her granddaughter Olivia’s 13th birthday that Lynn had style inspiration to share.

She describes each event as an affair to remember: from dinner at Tutto Italiano and speaking to Katie Couric who is celebrating her father’s 90th birthday to an equally important milestone – a 13th birthday celebration at the beach which “looked like a scene out of a Fellini movie… as the sun set over the water while my gorgeous girls carried umbrellas from Thailand.”

Naturally, this image left one thing on her mind – umbrellas! As every glamorous woman knows, from forty plus to baby boomer, style goes from head to toe accessories included!  We’d like to present to you our cheerful 2-in-1 parasol umbrella by Anii Natural Fashions. We’d imagine that if Catherine Deneuve had her way she would’ve been carrying this in the Umbrellas of Cherbourg.

The parasol/umbrella features a cheerful multi-color fabric parasol cover adorned with intricate embroidery designs.  The cover can be easily removed to unveil a multi-color umbrella featuring a cartoon image.  It even comes with a whistle to call a cab!

Off Broadway Boutique featured on The Curvy Fashionista!

Friday, August 6th, 2010

For Full Figured Fashion Weekend, Off Broadway Boutique hosted a lovely breakfast for a group of fabulous women. Off Broadway was the first stop on a glamorous shopping excursion for a wonderful group of full figured ladies. Check out the article from The Curvy Fashionista’s blog below, and be sure to check back on the Curvy Fashionistas blog to get exclusive advice on being Curvy, Confident and Chic!

A Day touring New York’s Plus size fashion scene- Off Broadway Boutique

What would a trip to Full Figured Fashion Week be without fully experiencing the fashion capital?

Imagine a day to traipse around the New York, chauffeured around in an executive bus with a tour guide, hitting New York’s haute-est spots for plus size fashion.  This year, assisting with the NYC shopping ventures, Full Figured Fashion Week™ and I fashioned a plus size shopping excursion to take the full-fledged fashionista to the fashion spots around the city.

On the last day of Full Figured Fashion Week™ and the day of the finale, 20+ women gathered at the top of the day just for this: The Shopping Excursion.  Starting at 8:30 am, yes, THAT EARLY, these curvy fashionistas gathered for a jam-packed, fun-filled, fashion extravaganza throughout the city and beyond with a tour of handpicked plus size boutiques and designers.

What was exciting about this trip was that there was something for everyone, from high-end designer to the consignment score.  This day was all about having fun while being presented with shopping options you hadn’t had the chance to have!  Ladies from France, Canada, Georgia, and throughout New York gathered to indulge their shopping habits! Our First stop: Off Broadway Boutique…

The Off Broadway Boutique

Our first stop took us to the Upper West Side of New York to a neighborhood favorite.  Fashion Designer and stylist to the stars, Lynn Dell was gracious to open her doors to us before opening to the public.  Off Broadway Boutique is, as one attendee shared, “a hidden gem in NY!  I walk in this area everyday and would not know of the beautiful items found inside!”

The Shopping Excursion during Full Figured Fashion Week

Naturally, in the 8 o’clock hour, we were still trying to wake up, but thanks to the amazing hospitality of Alix and the staff, they prepared a light breakfast paired with coffee and juice- the necessary breakfast of champions to get us going. Much needed, because there were so many things that caught our eyes!

The Shopping Excursion at Full Figured Fashion Week

Asides from the extremely attentive (almost psychic) and patient staff (I mean top notch) the selections were endless.  Although the site says that it caters to the more mature crowd, KNOW that there is something for everyone here! The day’s highlights include:

The Shopping Excursion at Full Figured Fashion Week-

The “Reruns” Department

Their consignment department, located in the back is where I was instantly drawn!  Amazing designer vintage and rare jewels- I was in heaven! Like Chanel drop earrings?  YES! Clothing like Chanel, Armani, Valentino, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton? YES!  From vintage jewelry, drop-dead furs, designer and vintage handbags- HEAVEN!

The Design Studio

They have this special service for you in the store, where if there is something you want, from their exclusive collection, and it is not in your size, they MAKE IT FOR YOU in HOUSE!

Ladies left with smiles, bags, and glee as the tone was set for the day’s festivities! Especially as those who were shopping for last minute scores for Full Figured Fashion Week’s FINALE!

Karin van der Plas and her Madness Of Fashion series!

Friday, July 30th, 2010
Boutique Off Broadway is proud to showcase and celebrate the work of Dutch Outsider Artist, Karin van der Plas and her Madness Of Fashion series…and another fabulous Memory Jug from outsider artist, Sue Kreitzman.

 Karin van der Plas

 ARTIST

My inspiration comes from an interest in history, tribal art, people, different cultures, books and my observations in life. My aim is to bring stories to life on canvas and to pass on the enjoyment and passion that art gives me. By using bright colors, dramatic movement and elaborate compositions including 3D collage I have achieved my own style. Once I have chosen a subject I collect information and immerse myself in the painting. As part of the narrative and communication I use symbolism, humor and different art styles to represent the research and the greater meaning and truth of my work. This series of paintings was inspired by collages using fashion magazines. I enlarged the images and combined it with my favorite Bayeux Tapestry art. Karin van der Plas was born in The Netherlands. She lived in New Zealand and Australia where she was exposed and inspired by Maori and Aboriginal art. This mostly self taught artist now lives and works in London UK and is a member of the Contemporary Folk Art Collective Wild Old Women (WOW)

You can see more of Karin’s work on www.karinvanderplas.co.uk

I have had a long and successful career as a food writer, but several years ago I suddenly stopped writing and cooking, and began drawing and painting instead. It was almost as if a violent fever had overtaken me (a fever which still rages), made all the more mysterious by the fact that I had never done such a thing before. My work is completely untutored and raw (as far as technique and materials are concerned, I make it up as I goalong), intensely personal, and involves colour, food, freedom and the female landscape. I fashion imagined goddesses, glimpsed strangers, close friends, personal female heroines, both real and mythological, and selfportraits. I paint on paper and found wood, with nail varnish, enamel, and acrylic, and sometimes embellish the paintings with buttons and other bits of interesting junk. Deeply moved and inspired by tribal art and religious iconography of all kinds, I believe that images and objects that have been created with passion can take on immense power. The more I produce, the more I am driven to produce; I often work right through the night. I was born and brought up in Washington Heights, and spent the first years of my marriage here. For 25 years I have lived and worked in England; now I divide my time between the East End of London, and Cabrini Blvd, New York City.
