Fashion on Wheels!

Tuesday, October 18th, 2011

Who says you can’t bike in style? Recently I got my wonderful red three-wheeler fixed up and when it was dropped off at our shop, I couldn’t hold myself back from taking it for a spin around the block!

lynnbikeblog1

Riding a bicycle keeps me active and lets me get around glamorously for a woman over 50! I love riding a three-wheeler because I still get the health benefits of pedaling a bicycle without worrying about balancing issues.

lynnbikeblog2

I find these sequin boots that we sell here at Off Broadway Boutique fabulous for bike rides. They keep my leggings tucked in neatly and the sequins reflect light which help make me more visible to oncoming traffic. I say that every over 50 woman should wear at least one sparkling or metallic item every time you take a bike ride. Of course, I follow that rule every day, whether I’m biking or not!

lynnbikeblog3

Jersey is one of the most comfortable fabrics to bike in. I’m wearing the Off Broadway Boutique Exclusive Black Jersey Poncho Style Top which we make right here at Off Broadway Boutique! Try decorating a comfortable jersey ensemble with a plethora of metallic bangles like I did and you’ll have a laid back yet fabulous outfit perfect for a day out on a shiny new bike!

Lynn Dell on Fashionable Maven!

Saturday, October 15th, 2011

A little while ago, Lynn Dell was approached by the fashion and lifestyle website, Fashionable Maven, to participate in a revealing interview about her unique style for women over 50.   Answering a myriad of questions that many people have often wondered, the result is a wonderful interview that we are excited to share a sample of with you:

When one thinks of Lynn Dell, ‘glamour’ immediately comes to mind.  In addition to being an esteemed fashion designer, stylist-to-the-stars, and former television host and producer, she is the owner of Off Broadway Boutique – the cornerstone of chic fashion for women over 50 on the Upper West Side for the last forty years.  She inspires complete strangers to marvel that she “is the most glamorous woman that they’ve ever seen,” according to Barbara Siegel, wife of off-Broadway impresario, Scott Siegel.  Also remarking that audience members at the Town Hall shows that Lynn attends always compliment her on her fabulous sense of fashion, Mr. Siegel highlights exactly why she is The Countess of Glamour!

Did you always have a career path in mind or did you just do what you fancied?

I’d originally wanted to be a top model, a great actress, or a movie star like Lana Turner,
however I had a bigger love for fashion that resulted in my discovery of my
fabulous sense of style. In getting constant compliments on my outfits, I
realized that I was better off paving my path in fashion that has led me to my
current career. In turn, I feel as if I’ve come full circle with my boutique
because I oftentimes come in contact with great actresses, movie stars, opera
singers, and top models when they stop by to shop in my store. I believe that
it is a continuation of my earlier aspirations, as Off Broadway Boutique is the
show that never closes.

What’s your typical week like?

My typical week consists of what I do every day, which is living my life to the fullest. I
usually start my day off by making my list of things that I need to do for the
day in my home office. Following that, I meet up with a good friend to take in
an art exhibit or a fashion exhibition. Sometimes, I visit showrooms and fabric
stores in the Fashion District. After getting enough inspiration from those, I
then make my way over to my boutique. Once there, I sit in the front and hold
court at a round table while meeting, greeting, entertaining, and learning from
my customers. I am very fortunate to be surrounded by wonderful and talented
fashion coordinators, so that helps tremendously in having a great day. After
work, I wind down by attending the theatre or the opera and going out to eat
with my friends.

Your secret beauty item?

Sleep. I have eight hours of it every night and it does wonders for my looks. Although, I
also use the Health and Beauty Dead Sea Minerals skin care products to keep my
face fresh and Vaseline to keep my lips smooth. I definitely make sure to laugh
a lot as well, as doing these keep me looking and feeling like my best self.

Hello, everyone!  A few months ago, we had mentioned our very own Lynn Dell being featured on ELLE Sweden’s fashion blog by the lovely Sofia Hedstrom.  In addition to that glowing article, Ms. Hedstrom was kind enough to highlight her as the muse to our very good friend, Ari Seth Cohen, in an interview about him for the Norwegian television show, Nationalgalleriet

Capturing Ari wonderfully while presenting Lynn as a fashionable woman over 50 is the main reason why we’re forever grateful to Ms. Hedstrom for doing such a fantastic job.  As promised previously, we present the entire segment for the enjoyment of all women over 50 with Lynn featured in the video from 2:50 to 3:40.

Lynn Dell Takes on New York Fashion Week’s Street Style

Saturday, September 17th, 2011

Hello, darlings! The thing that I love most about Fashion Week isn’t necessarily the new looks that storm the catwalk. Rather, it is the fabulous street style that comes alive in my hometown during this time of year. And though I’m sad that Fashion Week is over, I am certainly happy that I got a front row seat to see the most glamorous and eclectic fashions on my native New Yorkers!

One of the biggest misconceptions about fashion is the idea that it is something exclusive that can only be enjoyed by the elite. As you can see by the chic and fascinating people that I met during my time at Fashion Week, there is a collective love for fashion that makes up the fabric of New York’s originality. It is the same framework that I’ve presented and will continue to represent at Off Broadway Boutique for years to come.

Advanced Style Fashion Week Party At The Ace Hotel

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

Last night, our dear friend, Ari Seth Cohen from Advanced Style hosted an unforgettable fashion style party at the Ace Hotel with his co-host, the fabulous blogger, Tavi Gevinson, who pens the Style Rookie blog.

The night was filled with glamour and class, in the form of inspirational women who aren’t afraid to express themselves with vibrant colors, one of a kind jewelry pieces, and flamboyant fashion. Every form of style – from vintage to contemporary modern – was displayed throughout!

Our very own Lynn Dell was honored with a stunning large framed photo that hung on the wall of the hotel, while she enjoyed a video screening along with Ari’s inspiring top models. As always, she created a plenty of commotion and attention as camera flashes went off. Her outfit consisted of a stunning hat that was recently was added to Off Broadway Boutique’s chic hat collection to complement her pearl jewelry by Kenneth Jay Lane.

The Countess of Glamour on ELLE Sweden’s Fashion Blog

Saturday, August 20th, 2011

With her fabulous sense of baby boomer style, it’s no surprise that Lynn Dell has captivated many fashionistas around the world. The latest example of this is our newest friend, Sofia Hedstrom, who penned a lovely article about her visit with our Countess on her daily blog for ELLE Sweden (as translated from Swedish to English):

Life as a runner in New York | Published August 1, 2011

Livet och njutningen Life and pleasure

This weekend I read about a women’s prison in the United States organized a marathon. Runners Carol Hill and Suzanne MacDonald who worked part time at the prison began three years ago, wonder if running could not be part of rehabilitation. The warden was skeptical, and so even the inmates, but in just three years has löparklubben Running Free staged 17 years and strengthened several women.

Last Friday I interviewed Ari Cohen, who runs Advanced Style with women over sixty sharing their stylish. I also met amazing Lynn Dell, which is 78 years and reminded me to enjoy life. Each breakfast might be nice, any outfit creative and every day full of smiles. Lynn is not a runner, but she inspired me to be grateful for everyday things in life and when I was out this weekend and ran I thought about her advice.

This week, it happens a lot on the blog. I will respond to your excellent questions, but also reveal the will of three who won the running wear from Helly Hansen. Over a hundred people have mailed in their favorite songs. And speaking of enjoying life’s details so I look right now over this lovely bouquet of flowers that I received last Friday. The flowers come from something extremely rare in New York, namely someone’s garden. In this case, my date’s.

So enchanted by Lynn was Sofia that she interviewed her for an upcoming segment for the Norwegian network, NRK, on a television program called Nationalgalleriet. It will air on television in September and will be available on the Internet, so stay tuned to see The Countess of Glamour in all her glamorous glory!

Lincoln Center’s American Crafts Festival – One of Lynn Dell’s Fashion Inspiration Sources

Saturday, June 25th, 2011

Hello, everyone!  In addition to traveling the wold for unique clothing for women over 50 and jewelry, we at Off Broadway Boutique find them right at home in New York.  In particular, Lynn Dell shops for those one of a kind pieces from around the world at Lincoln Center, as she has always considered the New York City landmark a second home.  Its celebration of the artistic is the main reason why she always takes it upon herself to shop for stunning clothes and jewelry for over 50 women – as was the case at the annual American Crafts Festival at Lincoln Center where she’d shopped for our Fall fashion collection recently.

Never one to downplay her ability to be fashionable over 50, Lynn wore a vibrant top and pants ensemble from our Moroccan collection to the festival.  A vision in tangerine, she complemented the bright Summer day.

Lynn added extra pizzazz to her look with the dramatic earrings and the gorgeous pin from our exclusive jewelry collection.   Our Mexican jewelry will just as glamorous any woman over 50 as it does on our Countess of Glamour.

Triple Hoop Clip on Earrings, $157, exclusively at off Broadway Boutique

Silver Round Pin, $157, exclusively at off Broadway Boutique

With violin background music setting up the perfect ambiance for Lynn to shop for one of a kind clothing and jewelry, she came away with wonderful choices for our upcoming Fall fashion collection.  Consider this an invitation to visit our site of clothing for women over 50 for our latest high-end wardrobe pieces and fashionable jewelry.  Please also feel free to visit us on Twitter for the latest news on everything Off Broadway Boutique!

Lynn Dell’s Glamorous 60th Anniversary Celebration!

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011
With an appropriately glamorous party, Lynn Dell, the Countess of Glamour, celebrated her 60th anniversary with her husband, Sandy Cohen, yesterday. Surrounded by friends and family, Lynn and Sandy commemorated six decades of love, lifestyle, and fashion. Having both spent years working at the trendsetting fashion staple for over 50 women, Off Broadway Boutique, it was only natural that fashion, itself, was a guest of honor.
IMG_6813_rz
Lynn’s motto, “Dress for the theatre of your lives” certainly had its place at the festivities. Aside from bearing the stunning city views that was presented by the venue, Manhattan Penthouse, the room was decorated with mannequins bearing both modern and vintage fashions and accessories for women over 50 from Off Broadway Boutique and our consignment department. These mannequins were dressed in signature styles like our Silk Charmeuse V-neck Dress and the Silk Dupioni Jacket with Matching Hat, all of which are made exclusively at the Off Broadway Boutique studio.
The fabulous guests themselves were fashionable women over 50 that also added to the décor!  These guests, who traveled from as far as Mexico, came decked out in bright and beautiful prints, classy darks, sleek suits, and sky-high heels.

Lynn Dell wore three different outfits throughout the night! First off was a white outfit (that Lynn actually wore to a previous anniversary), second was a red jumpsuit from Off Broadway Boutique, and third was a Richard Tsao Long Darra Taffeta jacket. This jacket comes in a variety of colors, but Lynn chose an eye-catching hot pink.

For that extra dazzle, Lynn topped off these outfits with a dazzling tiara in true Countess of Glamour style that inspired many stylish women over 50!
