OFF BROADWAY BOUTIQUE INTRODUCES BABY BOOMER CHIC TO FASHION ELITE

Saturday, August 28th, 2010

With the largest fashion fete gracing the Big Apple in less than a month, scores of stylistas have been salivating over the chic possibilities. Sensing a perfect opportunity to broadcast our fabulous vision of forty-plus style, Off Broadway Boutique has decided to participate in Fashion’s Night Out global celebration by hosting a party at our store on the Upper West Side. In promoting our collection of elegant pieces to women over forty of all sizes, we have succeeded in tapping into an often-overlooked market that is quickly asserting itself as a lucrative force in retail.

“One of the reasons why we’ve been successful for over forty years is because we’re one of the few boutiques in New York that specifically caters to real women,” owner and Countess of Glamour, Lynn Dell, proudly declares. “We’ve never been about chasing the latest trends because we’ve been far too busy establishing timeless style amongst fifty-something women who live for looking fabulous.” With a vast selection of wardrobe pieces and glamorous jewelry that are handpicked by Ms. Dell and her seasoned staff, Off Broadway Boutique thrives in presenting its faithful clientele with choices that will fit every size, style, and way of life. In participating in Fashion’s Night Out, we plan on establishing a new kind of lucrative customer – the 40+ fashionista.

With our personalized take on styling for bodies that range from slender to full-figured, Off Broadway Boutique has earned a well-deserved reputation as a New York fashion institution in a way that exceeds other designer boutiques and department stores. As noted fashion blogger, Ari Seth Cohen observes, visiting the shop will prompt the most selective of stylistas to spend “all afternoon playing dress-up in a collection of over 40 years of new or vintage clothing and accessories.” It is that enthusiastic outlook that Off Broadway Boutique hopes to inspire in the fashion industry’s impression of women over forty who embrace that baby boomer chic.

Fabulously40 interviews the Countess of Glamour!

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

Fabulously40;a wonderful website dedicated to women in their prime, who support each other through blogs and articles, decided to do a spectacular interview with our own Countess of Glamour. Check out the interview below and be sure to visit this informative website and join the Fabulously40 community!

Can you see yourself being in the same profession for over 40 years? Meet Lynn Dell the owner of Off Broadway Boutique  located in New York, NY

Fab40: Describe how you started out in your career field. Did you attend college immediately following high school?
Lynn:We wanted to create a space for the fabulous fortysomething femme to shop in and believed that unique designs and unmistakable glamourwere attributes that any woman deserved.  Thus, we launched Off Broadway Boutique on the Upper West SIde of New York over 40 years ago.

Fab40: Are you currently working in the same profession you intended to when starting your career path or has it taken you in another direction and what is your current profession?
Lynn: For over 40 years, our boutique has been a show-stopper on New York’s Upper West Side because we unabashedly sell one thing: Glamour! Wherever you live, play, work or travel our look is unmistakable. It says you’re the most exciting woman in the room.

Fab40: During our careers, there are always challenges we are faced with that may or may not be gender related. I would like to know the most significant challenges you have been faced throughout your career or are facing now, and how you overcame them or plan to overcome them.
Lynn: Our biggest challenge has been to maintain our niche of selling to 40+ women, since mainstream fashion is often marketed to a younger demographic.  We’ve overcome this by staying true to our original objective while adapting with the times through communicating online, via telephone, and in person.

Fab40: What keeps you from giving up along the way when faced with tough challenges or let downs? Where did you find the strength or desire to keep pushing forward?
Lynn: We find inspiration through the countless women who leave our store extremely satisfied with what piece we’ve chosen for them or what outfit we’ve assembled together.  That lets us know that Off Broadway Boutique is not making our bold statement in vain.

Fab40: What are your accomplishments you are most proud of and why?
Lynn: We’re most proud of being able to withstand the changing style trends while providing a fashion haven for 40+ women who aspire to look fabulous.

Fab40: Do you have a support system surrounding you throughout your career climbing and if so, who are they and how did/do they help you?
Lynn: We consider our clients to be our support system, for we owe all our success to them.  They are very loyal to us, thus we thank them by providing them with the best service in New York City.

Fab40: What do you attribute your success to?
Lynn:Our success is attrributed to fulfilling our customers’ style desires for drama, color, and originality in their wardrobe.

Fab40: Has goal setting been a key component to your success and why?
Lynn: Setting goals has contributed to a major part of our success, for Off Broadway Boutique has never been a shop that remains idle when it comes to enticing their customers.

Fab40: In helping yourself achieve career goals, do you perform any type of mediation, relaxation or affirmations? If so, what has your experience been in relation to helping you accomplish your professional and personal goals?
Lynn: A simple affirmation works in securing Off Broadway Boutique’s lasting success: live your life to the absolute fullest.

Fab40: Have you been a mentor to others?
Lynn: We have mentored many women who’ve wanted a space to express their dynamic personality through fashion.  In encouraging women over 40+ to live fashionably out loud, we provide them with the confidence to do whatever their heart desires.

Fab40: What is your experience with networking and do you feel it is important? If so why or why not? Please describe any positive or negative experiences you may have had.
Lynn: Our experience in networking has been nothing but positive.  We’ve had the pleasure of meeting diverse people who share the common need to look and feel their very best.  That’s a quality that we believe that everyone should enjoy – feeling great.

Fab40: What do you feel are the essentials to career climbing and why?
Lynn: In our opinion, we believe in one golden rule when it comes to career climbing: You get one chance around, so go for it.

Fab40: Where do you see yourself in your career in 5 or 10 years and how do you plan on getting there?
Lynn: In five years, we anticipate becoming a major fashion force for 40+ women while being entirely accessible on the Internet.

Fab40: Are you involved in any non-profit organizations as a volunteer or board member? If so, which charity and why did you choose that particular charity? What role do you have in supporting them?
Lynn: We are involved in Broadway Cares, for a great deal of our clientele are fabulous women and famous celebrities from film, stage, television and opera who need our support in the Arts.

Fab40: Anything else you would like to add?
Lynn:We’re out to make a statement for you in day wear, evening wear, sportswear and every other kind of wear.  Most importantly, we want our clothes to have that certain attitude. That “je ne sais quoi” that makes every woman, large or small, young or ageless, look gorgeous.

Introducing Off Broadway Boutique’s Talented Thespian – Brianna Hurley!

Our very own Ms. Hurley, striking a pose

Our very own Ms. Hurley, striking a pose

Once in a while, we at Off Broadway Boutique like to spotlight a special client or friend that possesses our very spirit of dramatic flair.  This time, we are proud to present and highlight our very own sales associate and style siren, Brianna Hurley, for her incredible acting talent and her passion for the arts has transcended its way onto the stage!    Currently starring in Michael Sgouros and Brenda Bell’s Off-Broadway production of Phantom of the Opera as Mama Valerius, she has been earning rave reviews for her “gleefully eccentric” portrayal.  According to Heather Violanti of Theatre Online, the lovely and talented actress “stops the show”.  In addition, Happen to like New York states that Brianna is largely responsible for the production picking up in the second half. “She is a true comedic actress who deserves great accolades for her work as that character. I previously saw her in Cinderella, and thought she was good, but it was nothing compared to this. If there were to be one stand out moment in the second act, that would be it for me,” echoes the esteemed theater website.

We at Off Broadway Boutique share those sentiments, when it comes to Brianna’s theatrical sense of style.  Inspired by the Countess of Glamour, Lynn Dell, she goes above and beyond to express her colorful personality in the form of her flamboyant sense of fashion.

You must go see Brianna’s electrifying performance at The Players Theatre!

Lynn Dell of “Off Broadway Boutique”

Saturday, April 10th, 2010

Roaming the streets of New York for the chicest elders, Ari Seth Cohen knows a thing or two about fabulous fashion.  When he decided to feature The Countess of Glamour, Lynn Dell, on his fabulous blog, Advanced Style, we were more than happy to give him a tour of our chic boutique.  With his trademark wit and sharp eye for style, Ari captured the full essence of our stylish Countess!

By Guest Contributor Ari Seth Cohen, originally published at Advanced Style

Ari first met Lynn on the streets of New York some time ago. After the Advanced Style article in The New York Times he was again put in touch with this fabulous woman, owner of “Off Broadway Boutique”, a store on the Upper West Side and a very glamorous location. Of course our curiosity was piqued by the store’s description, “a playground of style”, but it was Lynn’s passion for bringing out her customers’ inner movie star that had us spending all afternoon playing dress-up in a collection of over 40 years of new or vintage clothing and accessories.

When I walk into the shop on a sunny afternoon, Lynn is sitting in a full floor-length costume at a makeshift vanity in the center of the room. She turns her head with a huge smile and generous wave, somewhat like what she would have done in the days when she was a Rockette. (later, when we walked out into the street, she actually did a high kick, which I’m practicing according to her lesson).

She asks us to take a seat while she introduces her staff of over 20 years…

“Let’s show them… at 39 you can look sensational!”, she says with a wink. Her look is more pronounced with age, she says “I got more confident as I got older, and dared to wear more.”

A casual look is brightly colored pieces with “flou”, accessorized to the maximum. “If you can travel easily with it, it’s casual.”

Lynn says she personally doesn’t do casual… “We dress for the theater of our lives! Who wants to wear jeans?!”

I wanted to know what Lynn would say about luxury, since these days eveveryone is so fixed on defining it.

“You don’t need luxury to have style…accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative! Don’t be proud of fat, just dress for your body…. If I’m doing my thing, I’m wearing my easy knit pieces with gold and sequins any day of the year. But you won’t see me wearing a big straw hat inside.”

She is, however, taking kindly to wearing large framed sunglasses indoors.

Lynn first discovered how to be stylish watching movie stars like Lana Turner and Ginger Rogers on the silver screen. I asked her what items every woman should have as they mature and “advance” with style:

“A woman should just have MORE of everything… more lipstick, more hand cream, more clothes..”

What really resonates, though, is her insistence that without poise and good posture, a woman cannot look glamorous. It helps me believe this is the real deal when her husband makes a brief appearance, and tells me he prefers when she’s in “happy colors”. At which point we change into a brighter look…“Off Broadway Boutique” makes these flower petal hats especially for their customers (Roberta Flack walked in as we were chatting, and Elizabeth Taylor’s signed picture is on the wall)… Lynn prefers this look “for the Opera”.

Later on, she suggests we make a re-do of the jacket I am wearing, but in taffeta. Lynn is also a designer at heart. One of the best things we do together during this visit is try on all of Lynn’s favorite jewelry. She has pieces you’ve only seen in the movies mixed in with faceted lucite chokers (which she dresses me in over a nylon sack-like one-piece) and macramé chest plates (that are seriously chic, Rodarte style).

Lynn’s talent is not only in knowing what’s good for the right figure, its also in coordinating the right jewelry. I learn through trial and error (in the deco mirror) that large round drop earrings are not good with a turban, you’re better to stay close to the face with dramatic chunky studs.

“It’s a finished look…. Try walking into a room with a headpiece and not getting the attention you need.”

I also compliment Lynn on her amazing manicure, which appears to have a lifetime of nurturing…

“These are mine, honey!”If you’re looking for a pick-me-up, or want to play dress-up with the Countess of Style, I suggest you visit Lynn at her shop. She is an absolute delight and can teach every one of us a thing or two about finding the glamour within .http://www.boutiqueoffbroadway.com/
