All Things Theatrical

As you know here at Off Broadway, we are big fans of all things theatrical. Here are some of the latest write ups from recent shows -

Dreamgirls – The Story of Diana Ross and The Supremes

Currently showing at the Apollo is the smash hit ‘Dreamgirls’, which has been adapted for the stage after a successful stint in the Box Office. Lynn Dell went to check it out and see what all the fuss was about! With almost 40 costume changes this surely was a feast for the eyes – whoever designed the costumes should have won an Academy Award! The set design and the lighting especially, was beyond the beyond! Of course we are not forgetting the show stopping performances by Moya Angela as Effie White, also featuring, as The Dreams, Syesha Mercado as Deena Jones, and Adrienne Warren as Lorrell Robinson.

Ragtime - The Story is ours. The place is America. The time is Ragtime.

Last week, Lynn Dell, went to see the Broadway Musical ‘Ragtime’ and said the opening scene literally “knocked me out! This ALONE is worth paying to go and see!!” Here in New York times change, but struggles remain the same as they did 100 years ago.  Read below for more information on this fantastic show!

Synopsis – AT THE DAWN OF A NEW CENTURY, everything is changing… and anything is possible. Direct from a sold-out extended run at the Kennedy Center, RAGTIME THE MUSICAL returns to Broadway in an acclaimed new production as ravishing as it is relevant. Set in the volatile melting pot of turn-of-the-century New York, RAGTIME weaves together three distinctly American tales — that of a stifled upper-class wife, a determined Jewish immigrant and a daring young Harlem musician — united by their courage, compassion and belief in the promise of the future. Their compelling stories are set to a glorious, Tony Award®-winning score by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens. Based on the classic E. L. Doctorow novel, RAGTIME also features an extraordinary, Tony Award-winning book by Terrence McNally, direction and choreography by Marcia Milgrom Dodge, a majestic 28-piece orchestra and a vibrant cast of 40.
