Cover-Lovin: Lara Stone Goes Brunette for Vogue Paris September ‘09

Monday, August 24th, 2009

I’ve already reviewed a mag cover with Lara Stone, but I couldn’t help but be drawn to her drastically different look for Vogue Paris’ September cover – namely, her hair!

lara stone brunette vogue paris sept 09

Lara is best known for her ethereal blonde-fairy look, but this shoot shows a compeltely new side of her – the overall styling of the shoot is very 50’s,  very retro, which I adore, and Lara’s new look givers her a smoky air of mystery that suits her extremely well.

I love it.  Stay burnette, Lara!

What do you think?  Love it?  Want Lara to go back to blonde?  Let me know in the comments!

What We Can’t Wait For: The Rachel Zoe Project: Season 2

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

It’s bananas!

rachel zoe

How much I can’t wait for the Season 2 premiere of ‘The Rachel Zoe Project’ on Bravo – this Monday at 10pm – that’s what’s bananas.

From the Bravo website, here’s a summary of what we can expect from the new season:

The hottest stylist in Hollywood is back and offers an all access pass to fabulous fashion as The Rachel Zoe Project, returns Monday, August 24 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. The second installment of this fashion-forward drama delves further into the inner workings of Team Zoe as they jet from coast to coast throwing charity auctions, attending store openings and laboring to find the perfect gowns to adorn the red carpet during award season. The new season includes some of the world’s most influential and respected designers including Giorgio Armani, John Galliano, Christian Lacroix, Karl Lagerfeld, Giambattista Valli, Diane Von Furstenberg and Matthew Williamson to name a few.

Rachel Zoe is as over-booked as ever and the constant tension between her hotheaded assistants, Brad and Taylor, only serves to escalate the drama in her already crazed schedule, leading to stress induced vertigo. The economic downturn presents yet another snag in the garment-hunting process and Team Zoe must get creative as the number of available couture gowns dwindle. There is never a dull moment as Rachel takes her team to Paris Fashion Week, continues to build her brand, and struggles to balance her personal life and spend time with her husband, Rodger.

I die.

Can you wait?  Are you excited?  Could you absolutely care less about what I’m blabbering on about?  Let me know!  In the comments, silly!!

Escada to File for Quasi-Bankruptcy

Escada 2009 - Peter Lindberg - 16

From Fashionologie:

Escada was considered one of the world’s premier fashion labels in the ’80s, but the German luxury label has since become downtrodden among design flops, weak sales for many seasons, and management upheavels.  Last month, the company’s chairman Bruno Saelze indicated that if the debt restructuring plan the company put forth to stockholders was not approved this month, the business would have to be dissolved.

A month later, Escada has failed to reach the required stockholder acceptance level for its bond exchange plan and is meeting today to discuss plans to file for insolvency. Under German law, planned insolvency is the closest procedure to bankruptcy, as the country does not have the equivalent of Chapter 11. Saelzer had wanted to avoid insolvency out of concern for the brand’s image, and tried to keep up appearances in the last month by releasing a Fall 2009 campaign with Eva Herzigova photographed by Peter Lindbergh and last week, images of the brand’s Spring 2010 collection.  The management was to meet today to discuss further steps. downtrodden among design flops, weak sales for many seasons, and management upheavels.  Last month, the company’s chairman Bruno Saelzer

Escada is not the only fashion house in financial troubles lately.  A few weeks ago, Christian Lacroix revealed that there was practically no money coming into the brand, and that the designer himself has been working for free for a long time.  While there is a light at the end of the tunnel for Lacroix, as a buyer has possibly come to the rescue, we can only hope that the same will be true for Escada.

Get the Look: Penelope Cruz at ‘Broken Embraces’ London Premiere

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

When I saw these photos of Ms. Penelope Cruz at the London premiere for her new film, Broken Embraces, I couldn’t help but think that her fabulous red suit looked somewhat familiar…

peneolpe cruz red suit

And that’s when I realized: it’s because we have one just like it, right here in our vintage department!!!

david bijan red suit

This beautiful red wool suit is from Beverly Hills designer to the stars, David Bijan.

This is a 2 piece suit (1980’s) - fully lined -  the fabric is a medium weight red wool crepe suit. The jacket is a boxy shape. Suit has satin trim around pockets collar and buttons.

The pants are fabulous! A nice design feature of the pants is the off-centre closure. It is such great quality, I can’t believe it!!

By 1976 Bijan had set up an exclusive boutique on the legendary Rodeo Drive. His store, which could only be visited by appointment, was considered by many to be the most expensive store in the world. Today, many of the most powerful men in the world can be seen wearing clothing designed by Bijan. His clients include President Bush, Tom Cruise, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sir Anthony Hopkins, President Ronald Regan, Jay Leno, and Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Don’t let this amazing find pass you buy!!  Snatch up a great piece at a great price!

Cover-Lovin’: Vogue, August ‘09

Monday, August 10th, 2009

Happy Monday!

Let’s kick the week off with some Cover-Lovin’, shall we?

Today I’ll focus on the August issue of the one and only Vogue Magazine, featuring the also one-and-only Christy Turlington.

christy-turlington-vogue-august-2009-cover

The lush coloring and styling of the cover itself just screams SUMMER, and Christy looks absolutely fabulous.  Also, it’s refreshing to see an actual MODEL on the cover of a fashion magazine, not Hollywood actresses, as the trend has been as of late.  Let the actors stay in their corner, and let the models rule in theirs.

Anyway, the summery palatte of the cover is wonderfully filled by the simple, elegant styling of Christy – the lavendar dress and understated makeup lets Christy’s beauty speak for itself.

I love it!  What do you think?  Love it?  Hate it?  Let me know in the comments!

The ‘Off Broadway’ Review: Jean Paul Gaultier – Haute Couture: Fall 09

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

Since Couture Fashion Week recently wrapped up, I wanted to share ‘Off Broadway’s thoughts on some of the fabulous (and not-so-fabulous) collections and pieces.

And today, Jean Paul Gaultier!  On with the review!

Gaultier went full-on old Hollywood in his inspiration for this Couture collection.  Classic lines, flowing fabrics, and just the right amount of tough structure makes this collection positively surreal.  I could stare at this collection all day long, there’s just so much detail and beautiful craftsmanship in each piece.

The long-sleeved, floor-length blue dress with the gladiator-style corsetting has me absolutely smitten.

Grade: A

What do you think?  Gorgeous?  Blah?  Ugly?  Let me know in the comments!
